NEW EXHIBITS PLANNED FOR OXFORD MUSEUM OPENING ON OXFORD DAY
APRIL 26 and 27

In recognition of Oxford’s 325th anniversary as a Maryland port of entry and the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry, and the 125th anniversary of Waters Methodist Church, the Museum will open its 2008 season with a series of special exhibits, lectures, and demonstrations.

Early April: The Museum will feature a special window display of Civil War memorabilia to highlight the Civil War re-enactment activity planned for the Oxford Day weekend.
April 17:  A lecture, “Tracing your Family Roots,” will be given by local genealogist Helen Seymour at the Oxford Community Center at 6:45 pm. Mrs. Seymour will share her expertise on how to research your family’s history.
April 25:  A panel of local Civil War enthusiasts and experts will share information about Oxford during the Civil War on Friday evening at 7 pm. The program is tentatively scheduled at St. Pauls Wesleyan Church, Oxford.
April 26:  The Museum opens with new exhibits and window displays that tell the stories of the Valliants, one of Oxford’s first families; of Rev. Thomas Bacon, a renowned colonial figure; and the history of local area plantations. Later in the year, a special talk is being arranged that will rejoin the Valliants and Rev. Bacon on center stage – something to look forward to. Also on Oxford Day, the Museum is pleased to co-sponsor Native American Daniel Firehawk, who will be in Town Park (weather permitting) with an entertaining and educational program about the area’s first citizens.

We invite you to join us in celebrating the heritage of this unique community. Activities will continue through 2008 and into 2009 when Oxford celebrates its 340th anniversary as a settled town and anchorage. Look for flyers detailing exhibits, lectures and other events at the Oxford Post Office, the Oxford Library, the Oxford Market, and other locations; or call the Museum for information at 410-226-0191.
